About Composer Club
We believe every kid has music inside them. Composer Club gives young musicians the tools, skills, and confidence to let it out.
Music education that meets kids where they are
Most kids who love music spend years consuming it before anyone hands them the tools to actually make it. Composer Club exists to close that gap — fast. We're starting with a single founding cohort in January 2027, and as we grow we'll add more start times — daytime sessions for families with flexible schedules, and evening sessions that fit around school and after-school life. Twelve weeks, live Zoom sessions, real industry software — and by week two, every student has already made something they're proud of.
We keep cohorts intentionally small — up to 15 students — so every kid gets real attention every week. Not a form email or a rubric dropped into a portal. Genuine feedback on the actual music they're making, from an instructor who has spent years composing and teaching.
Faith is part of who we are, too. Composer Club is taught from a Christian worldview: we believe creativity is a gift from God, and that making something beautiful — and finishing it — honors the One who gave the gift. You'll see it in the culture more than the curriculum: encouragement over competition, honest feedback delivered with kindness, and genuine celebration of every student's work. Families of all backgrounds are welcome.
The final project isn't a grade. It's a piece on Spotify — released under the student's own name, through their own distribution account, so they own it long after the course ends. That's the standard we hold ourselves to: every student leaves with something real.

Meet the Teacher
Jon Sheppard
Musician & Certified Educator
Hi, I'm Jon Sheppard. I earned my B.A. in Music from Texas A&M, and I've spent about 20 years writing and producing music — with placements in commercials and video game soundtracks along the way. I started Composer Club because I kept meeting homeschool students with real musical curiosity and nowhere structured to point it.
That combination is the whole point of this course: I'm a trained musician and a trained teacher — two things that rarely show up in the same person. When I walk a student from a blank project file to a finished track released on Spotify, I'm teaching a craft I've practiced for two decades, in a way I spent years learning how to teach.
For 7 years I was a certified classroom teacher — math and programming — so I know how to break a complex idea down for a teenager, keep a room engaged, and make things actually click instead of just presenting information and hoping for the best. I'm not in the classroom anymore, but that's exactly the skill I bring to every session.
I'm also an award-winning basketball coach, which sounds unrelated until you realize coaching and music instruction are the same job: building confidence, giving feedback a student can actually use, and helping young people do their best work when it matters. That's the energy every cohort gets.

A B.A. in Music, 7 years as a certified classroom teacher, and 20 years writing music — including commercial and video game placements.
